Five Changes To Conquer Your Mobile For Exponential Productivity Boost

I used to waste a lot of time scrolling and watching reels. After reading a few articles from Neeramitra Reddy on Medium about boosting productivity by controlling your mobile, I adopted a few which have made a big difference. Here are the five easy changes you can make now.

Neeramitra Reddy suggests many productivity changes, some of which are challenging. One example is setting your phone in monochromatic colour mode. That is only shades of black and white. I tried this but couldn’t see it for over half a day.

But the below 5 are easy changes without looking at your phone in shades of two colours only.

These will free you up from the clutches of mobile phone handcuffs so you can have your time back.

Note: If you don’t have anything to do with free time, you’ll return to your mobile phone’s golden handcuffs. Despite how many tricks or changes you make.

Put your phone out of your sight.

Your visual perception accounts for 70% of your thoughts and actions.

If you see a mobile in front of you, it’ll push you 70% more to check it once. If you have a book in front of you, you’ll be bound to read it more.

So hide your phone behind something so you cannot see it. I use places like behind my screen/tv, tablecloth, cupboard, balcony, and side table outside my field of vision.

Put your phone in DnD mode.

Without any sound notification, there will be no urge to check your phone.

The primary concern is to miss urgent calls from home or friends. You can add them as exceptions. If they call, your phone will ring.

I’ve added my family and a few friends. All smartphones have this setting, so do it now.

No more disturbance from notifications or annoying promotional calls anymore.

Delete useless apps

This is an easy one. Delete less used apps cause they send notifications drifting your attention. This won’t take more than 3 minutes.

Go to apps, and they usually show when you last used them. Suppose you didn’t use it for a month; removing them is better. More space and less load on the phone are a plus.

Hide apps eating your time

Apps like Instagram and Facebook only eat your time, so it’s best to check them out when you are free.

Most smartphones have the feature to hide apps behind passwords or fingerprint protection. Hide your bank apps, time waste apps and the ones you use very often.

You’ll see a less cluttered digital space and be more vigilant of which apps you’re using.

The best part of hiding apps is you don’t get any notifications from them.

Get a Minimalist phone/digital space.

I see a lot of people having fancy phone covers and wallpapers. 100% of people don’t give a fuck what your phone looks like. Especially when we live in the age when every other person has an iPhone.

Having a fancy phone cover and wallpaper only increases your obsession with it. This unhealthy obsession is only logical if you make business deals on your phone.

Set a simple Wallpaper and a monochrome (one-coloured) phone cover. (Example below)

These are the five hacks/changes you can do today to see the result in your phone usage. This will help only if you have something to do with your free time. Otherwise, you will bounce back to your phone after doing all these.
