Since the last 1.5 years I’ve been pushing myself for the better than ever. It made me better in many areas of life. Here are the top 5 skills that improved on their own without actually working on it.

Writing email

Since I’ve started writing on medium. My writing still and confidence has been though the roof. I can write about anything anytime.

This has helped me send clear and meaningful mails at work.

Better at enduring anything physical

After body-breaking workout at gym everyday, nothing else in my life seems tough. Walk to the office, run to the office, work on standing desk for hours, trekking 3–4kms, riding seem a normal day in life.

My physical exhaustion limit at gym is so high that everything else seems pale in comparison. I can endure almost anything physical.

Healthier than ever

To lose weight I started eating less. As a result I lost a lot of weight but also gained a lot of craving. When you eat less, the cravings skyrocket. So I had to start eating more but keeping the calorie count in control. This led to a lot of research and finding the best diet for me.

I started eating all types of vegetables. Broccoli, Bitter-Gourd, Gourd, Spinach, Red-Palak, Paneer, Tofu. These are low calorie yet very rich in macro and micro nutrients.

Apart from that multi-grain wheat, mix pulses, soy milk, fruits, dry fruits, muesli and oats.

I started avoiding foods like potato, more than 3 roti, very heavy breakfast. I’ll write another blog on my diet journey.

Mental Strength/Resolve

Till my final year in college I had read 2 books in life. That is 2 books in 21 years. In the last 2.5 years I’ve read more than 20 books.

As you can see I was not a reader. I didn’t like reading, not even one bit. I had to force myself to read even for 5 minutes. Doing so for a long time made my resolve skyrocket. Now I’ve the resolve to do anything I set my mind.

I used this resolve to start writing. I didn’t like writing, like at all. Yet here I am with 20+ blogs by now.

Mega Boost to Communication Skills

Being a JEE aspirant and a CS grad in one of the top colleges in India doesn’t leave much time for socialization. I was a huge dork at handling social situations and conversations. The biggest issue came when I wanted to talk to that girl I liked.

So to improve on this, I did the following.

  • Talking to friends at least an hour over phone.
  • Talking to female friends for at least an hour over phone.
  • Cold call work people over skype.
  • Cold Approach Women in public places like gym and restaurant.

The result is I can talk to anyone today for as long as I want and have a superb engaging conversation. I can even talk to my company’s CEO and entertain him if he come tomorrow from Germany. The level of confidence and skill boost gained was massive.

So these are the top 5 things I gained from pushing myself in various areas of life.

Pushing yourself in any direction gives an amazing sense of direction and clarity in life. So keep pushing.

Cheers : )
