Is AI gonna take your job? Yes Eventually!!
I talk to people about the AI shift and most of us aren’t even aware how far AI has come along. From working as a chatbot to building a software product, making a video from scratch, and creating and editing Images. Planning out your workout, diet, and schedule and even help you out as a counsellor. Helping you out with your shopping, to even scoring top marks in Competitive exams like JEE, SATs etc.
First of all this article isn’t supposed to scare anyone off but only to voice my reading up on AI shift.
I recently watched this video by Varun Mayya.
This guy explains in very detail why and how coding jobs are gonna go.
But before we dive into what, let’s talk about why!
Why is AI going to take your job?
Since the beginning of time, one thing has been on the top for running business: COST
Net profit = All profit — COST
With the help of AI agents, the same task can be done way cheaper than humans.
Then why hire humans?
No reason at all. It’s a business not a charity show.
How will AI take you jobs?
AI/ML(Machine Learning) has been with us long. Generative AI(GenAI) is what’s new. Before GenAI, ML models used to understand a specific data and predict on the data. GenAI is different, it doesn’t predict, it generates response based on understanding. Similar to what we as humans do.
Put it simply.
ML models : Learns/Memorize the data.
GenAI model : Understands the data.
But complex jobs like software engineering will actually be one of the last jobs to go.
There’s tons of other simple jobs which will be out first.
Talk about customer support. Even with the current models of GPT, its pretty fucking easy to create a wrapper for customer support. Customize it individually for every firm’s demands. And baam all there goes customer support jobs. Well not all but maybe 90%.
Photoshopping and editing — If you guys have been following up on MidJourney and other text to image GenAI models, creating or changing a existing image is a very basic task for GenAI models.
You would have seen that video where AI generates videos out of famous memes.
- Need to remove your ex from family photo, no need to call a photoshop guy, AI can do it in an instant and free.
- Need to perfect edit your wedding pictures, guess what! AI can do it for free and under a minute.
Movie Making — I’m sure this is gonna sound absurd at this moment but its only a matter of years before we see movie making industry go significant changes.
- You don’t need of visual effect team anymore. With the speed at which text-to-movie GenAI models are being developed, creating a scene like this from Transformers will be 100x cheaper and faster than a full team of visual effect and CGI guys.
- Sound effect? Sound Engineer? What?
Search for Text to Sound AI. There’s so much AI already present to create any sort of sound from a prompt. Why the fuck would someone ever hire a sound engineer? You want the sound of a monkey walking to the bar and drinking out of the bottle, you have it in mere 5 seconds.
I mean making a huge movie like Interstellar you probably would hire 1–2 Sound Engineers but that’s it. I bet even that would be obsolete after a while. - Actor? I mean sure we love to see our beloved Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson, but what if I tell you, I can make a whole movie of them with just a few of their pictures. Yeah AI can do that. Wouldn’t you love to see
Michael Keaton as a young batman. Now that would be impressive.
- Industry? Interstellar took $150 million to make and generated a revenue of $709 million, taking about a year to make.
How about a group of 10 people use various AI to write the script, generate scenes, voice actors and special effects, create music and combine everything together to make a movie-like transformer with a measly budget of a few thousand dollars in 6 months and earn upto $50–100 million dollars from it.
Yeah, that day is not far away. We say things like authenticity and creativity and whatnot. We used to say similar things about animated movies coming to theatres, and yet here we are watching animated movies on the big screens, where a movie like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) went to earn $690 millions.
This might not be quick but its sure to come.
Writing and Content Creation — Writing has become so freaking easy with GenAI models.
Study Finds Almost 11% of Fortune 500 Blog Articles Are Likely AI-Generated. This is 2024 when the AI revolution has just begun.
What does this mean for the writers?
Devaluation of writing skills. You might be a perfect writer but you’ll easily be replaced by someone who can deliver almost perfect articles in a very short time.
And yes it is very easy to do that with AI.

Is AI gonna take my job?
There you have a near-perfect blog in a minute, to publish or sell.
Similar to content creation, As of today lots of content you’re watching on YouTube/Instagram are AI-generated. So that is kind of an opportunity if you take it.
Shorts like this are generated in a few minutes generating huge flow of money (7.7M views WTF). All done with a combination of a few AIs.
Coding Jobs- Being a software developer myself its difficult to admit but the valuation of software engineers is just gonna go down the drain in the coming few years. I experimented with ChatGPT and Gemini in the early days of their release.
Even at that time, they helped me make an app in 2 days which could have taken 2 months otherwise.
Not only did it help me write the components, but also helped me debug all the errors.
Keep in mind they were general AI assistants, not tailored to coding like DEVIN.
AI will never replace software developers.
Few Software developers with AI skills will replace the majority of software developers.
As of now, I can claim to build a full-stack application like Zomato with the help of coding assistants alone. All I would need is a cheap subscription to any Coding assistant and an Architect to plan things out.
I know people making full-scale applications with a team of just 5 people.
This is the prime time to make your dream app by yourself, publish it on Play Store and build your software business.
Teaching — Imagine Katy Perry teaching your calculus. Yeah, my man, that day won’t be far away.
Although I doubt the way of teaching is going to change.
The thing is innovation and adaptation of AI business depend on one major factor: MONEY
Jobs like software engineer are going to go cause developing software with AI is way cheaper and quicker than a team of engineers.
Teaching, not a lot of difference. At least in India.
Surgeries and Doctor — It's a long shot and will likely be 2–5 years.
Things might kick off with cheap consultations since AI is cheaper than your next-door doctor.
It might move to helping out doctors during surgery or complex analysis, such as X-rays or CT-scan reports.
I worked on an AI model to detect lesions in MRI images of brain. It worked well and this was way before GenAI.
Using GenAI on the medical side is going to make healthcare a lot more cheaper and affordable.
What would you as a lower/middle-class person choose
- A Doctor to do your eye surgery for 5 Lakhs Rupees ($3500) with a fail record of 5%. or
- An AI machine with a cost of 10k($70) with a fail rate of 1%.
the day is not far away when you will have to make this choice.
Other Jobs like Cloth Designers, Civil Architect, CA for taxes, Financial Advisor, Data Analysts, Receptionist, Proof Readers, Low effort Manual Work etc will be easily replaced/enhanced.
One quick way to imagine what will still be important.
Think about this,
Is it costly to do? (VFX and software)
Can AI do it cheaper?(Software)
Can AI do it faster? (Writing/VFX/Software)
Is your job very easy to do? (Call centre/support)
If the answer is yes, someone is already making a GenAI model to automate your work.
Well, that was long and dark. Sorry if I scared you guys. But these kinds of changes have been there since the dawn of time.
Whenever humanity evolves, things change.
Think about this. Go back to the age of Adivasis/Tribal people. Everyone in good health was employed and earning their share of food.
Then come today. Is everyone in good health earning well?
No people without education are suffering, cause our society evolved to have education as a mandatory thing for survival.
Similarly, the AI revolution is a big wave that will change how we live in the next 10–20 years.
Either future proof for it now, or you know panic when it happens. In any case let me know your opinions/
